Life Coaching

Originally from Poland, I started coaching well before the term was coined. As soon as I completed the essential regulatory training, I began coaching when I crossed the threshold of the National Cancer Institute.

Although most patients were cured of cancer, there were many with limited life expectancy, surrounded by desperate families in need of support.
In those days, there was no training on how to provide this support. We had to learn this by mastering empathy and linguistic skills. It was a baptism by fire but worked well. How do you coach (look after psychological needs) a 5-year-old child dying of leukaemia and who is aware of it?

My further training took me to the UK. Soon after arrival I was awarded the equivalent of a British medical degree (LRCP MRCS). The surgical training in Leicester, Bristol, Glasgow and Cleveland Clinic in Ohio led to the position of Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery.

Becoming a consultant and trainer of young surgeons further increased the demand for coaching and mentoring skills. My patients had a calculable risk of perioperative mortality, and some were facing imminent death without a prompt intervention.
My personal breakthrough happened in 2006 when I completed the Neuro-Linguistic Practitioner course. At last, I had acquired the fundamental knowledge of communication and how it can be used to help my patients then and clients today.

After retirement, I trained extensively in life coaching, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and hypnosis. I have regained my sense of purpose by helping others going through retirement, or anyone who needs help overcoming an obstacle in their life.
